Oh My Fairytales: Reflection by Elizabeth Lim

Hello there!

Here is another Oh My Fairytales post and this one is on Reflection by Elizabeth Lim. This is the fourth book in the A Twisted Tale series. In Reflection, we follow the story of Mulan where the twist is “What if Mulan had to travel to the underworld?” I have to say that this has been my favorite in the twisted tales series. Before I get too ahead of my self I will explain more about this book.

In Reflection, we jump right into the scene where they are fighting the Huns on the mountain. In this battle, Shang is injured badly and this is how Mulan still disguised as Ping has to travel to the underworld to save him from death. I loved how Lim created a new story but still made it feel like the story that we already know from the Disney movie. Even though this book is very different from the movie it was so cool how Lim included lines from the movie. For example, she would take a line from early in the movie and add that line to the story she created. It was honestly so fun to find all the lines that were in the movie in this book. And They Lived Happily Ever After : Goodbye to Once Upon a Time

Hello there!

So, last year when Pretty Little Liars ended I did a blog post about what I loved about the images-3show and saying goodbye. I thought that since Once Upon a Time ended this past Friday I should do the same with Once Upon a Time.

I remember when I first heard about the show. I was at the movie theater about to watch Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows Part 2. They played the tailor for Once Upon a Time before the movie previews. I love Disney and fairy tales so when I watched the trailer I knew that I had to watch the show when I premiered on October 23, 2011. Once I watched the premiere I knew that this show will be something I will absolutely love.  Continue reading “And They Lived Happily Ever After : Goodbye to Once Upon a Time”

Oh My Fairytales: As Old as Time by Liz Braswell

Hello there!

This post is going to be on my thoughts of As Old as Time: A Twisted Tale by Liz Braswell. The A Twisted Tale series takes the Disney movies that we love and adds a twist to it to make it different. In this book it Liz Braswell retells the story of Beauty and the Beast and asks the question ” What if Belle’s mother cursed the Beast?”.  I have been wanting to read this book ever since it came out in 2016! Finally, I got my hands on a copy and I will tell you what I thought about this new tale as old as time.

I will start off by saying that Beauty and the Beast (1991) is my favorite movie. Not my favorite Disney movie, not my favorite animated film but my favorite movie period. I have read a few Beauty and the Beast retellings and I have not found one that I have absolutely loved. I think I have such high standards that I haven’t found a Beauty and the Beast retelling that just blew me away. That being said As Old as time came pretty close to it but it ended up not being what I hoped it would be.  Continue reading “Oh My Fairytales: As Old as Time by Liz Braswell”

Hello there!

I will start off by saying that I am currently in the middle of reading three books. Yes, three books. For What the Valley Knows it is taking me a while to Continue reading “The Struggle of being a reader”

Book vs. Movie: A Wrinkle in Time

Hello there!

This is going to be a quick post about my thoughts on the A Wrinkle in Time book and movie. I would do a list of all the similarities and difference but then we will be here forever. So, I will just tell you how I felt about both the book and the movie. Now, let’s get started.

First, off like any book being made into a movie, there were many changes. I feel that the changes that were made were fine. I think that the movie still delivered the message that the book originally gave in a cool way. The movie had all the main components that were Continue reading “Book vs. Movie: A Wrinkle in Time”

Coming Up in February and March!

Hello there!

In today’s post I will be telling you what I have planned to read in February and March. I have decided to start doing my TBR’s every three months instead of monthly. That way it allows me to have a longer amount of time to read the books that I set out to read. Since I thought about this after I had already done my January TBR this month it will just be February and March. My next TBR will be in April for April, May and June. The next July for July, August and September. Lastly, October for October, November and December. I really hope that this schedule works out better. Now on to the books.

Review: Rise of the Isle of the Lost by Melissa de la Cruz

Hello there!

Finally, the last review of the The Isle of the Lost books. I know this is really late but better late than never right? Well, I say we just get into this review. This will be spoiler free so do not fear and read on.

I am going to start off by talking about what I liked about the book. One of the things that I liked is the fact that things are explained. I liked that they explained where Harry Hook and Gil came from. In the first two books we know that Captain Hook has a daughter named Harriet and Gaston has twin sons named Gaston and Gaston. So when I heard about Harry son of Captain Hook and Gil son of Gaston I thought they were just going to pretend that Harriet and the Gaston twins were never a thing. But it is explained that  Harriet and Harry are siblings and the Gaston twins and Gil are brothers as well. You may say well duh obviously they are siblings. But Harry and Gil are not mentioned in the first two books they just pop up in the third book. That is what made me think that they were going to pretend that Harriet and the Gaston twins weren’t a thing. Make sense? I hope it does.
