Review: Rule by Ellen Goodlett

Hello there!

Here is a new review for you guys. This review is on the book Rule by Ellen Goodlett. Want to know more about it? Well, keep on reading.

About

“The king is dying, his heir has just been murdered, and rebellion brews in the east. But the kingdom of Kolonya and the outer Reaches has one last option before it descends into leaderless chaos.

Or rather, three unexpected options.

Zofi has spent her entire life trekking through the outer Reaches with her band of Travelers. She would do anything to protect the band, her family. But no one can ever find out how far she’s already gone.

Akeylah was raised in the Eastern Reach, surrounded by whispers of rebellion and abused by her father. Desperate to escape, she makes a decision that threatens the whole kingdom.

Ren grew up in Kolonya, serving as a lady’s maid and scheming her way out of the servants’ chambers. But one such plot could get her hung for treason if anyone ever discovers what she’s done.

When the king summons the girls, they arrive expecting arrest or even execution. Instead, they learn the truth: they are his illegitimate daughters, and one must become his new heir. But someone in Kolonya knows their secrets, and that someone will stop at nothing to keep the sisters from their destiny… to rule.

Magic, mystery, and blackmail abound in this sensational and striking fantasy debut.”

Writing Update # 4: Changing things and NaNoWriMo

Hello there!

I can’t believe that it has been almost a year since my last writing update. I would like to say that I have progressed a lot in my project but that would be a lie. I will say that there was a point where I wanted to just quit and that is why this update is so late. Long story short I decided that I shouldn’t quit and that I should give this project my all. I filmed a video called Writing Project: I don’t know what I am Doing where I go into detail about why I wanted to quit.  Continue reading “Writing Update # 4: Changing things and NaNoWriMo”

Book Monologue #9: War Storm by Victoria Aveyard

Other reviews in the series:

Red Queen–     Spoiler Free  with Spoilers

Glass Sword–   Spoiler Free  with Spoilers

King’s Cage–     Spoiler Free  with Spoilers

Now on to the review!

Like I said in my spoiler-free review I felt that the first 200 pages were dragging and I was just there waiting for the action to start. I like fast-paced books so it just took so much for me to get through this book. Once the story started to pick up I did really enjoy this conclusion novel. It went places that I didn’t expect it to which is good because it makes it unpredictable. Continue reading “Book Monologue #9: War Storm by Victoria Aveyard”

Review: War Storm by Victoria Aveyard

Hello there!

This is super late but here is my spoiler-free review of War Storm by Victoria Aveyard. If you are unaware this is the last book in the Red Queen series, that being said there will be some spoilers from the other books in the series. If you want to check out my reviews for those books you can check them out here —> Red Queen, Glass Sword, King’s Cage. Now on to the review.

Okay, I will start off by saying that this book took me a little over two months to read. I had a hard time really getting into the book because I felt that the first 200 pages there was not much happening and I just wanted to get to the real action. Also, I wanted to see what Maven was up to because he is such a character it is never a dull moment when he is around. That said once it started to pick up I did start to enjoy it more.

One of the things that I liked was that for two or three chapters we got to read from Maven’s point of view and I feel that for those few chapters it added so much to his character because we got to finally see a some of his inner thoughts. I also really liked some of Evangeline’s chapters because we just got to learn more about her also her sass IMG_2769is just everything! Now Mare, so if you have read King’s Cage you know how it ended and the way that Mare handles the situation was so annoying! I mean Cal didn’t handle the situation any better but those two I just couldn’t stand how they were dealing with it especially Mare.

Let’s talk about the ending. I really enjoyed the ending mainly because it was not what I thought or hoped would happen. There was a certain thing that I thought will not happen and it actually did.  I also think that it was a bold move that Aveyard let that happen. That is very vague but I don’t want to spoil it for you. What I also loved about this book as well as the entire series is how it touches on some topics that are very relevant today in a unique way. I will touch on this more in my spoiler review.

All in all, I did enjoy this book but not as much as I loved King’s Cage. I did not walk away from this book thinking “wow that was amazing” but I was thinking about it past reading the last page, that was mainly due to the ending. I will say that I feel that it could have been shorter because some parts did drag. I gave War Storm 3.75 stars out of 5. Let me know in the comments what your thoughts are on the series with no spoilers of course. Also, I will be posting my spoiler review later this week so keep an eye out for that.

Until next time book nerds,

Review: Lifeline by Abbey Lee Nash

Hello there!

I want to start off this review by thanking Tiny Fox Press for sending me Lifeline for review. This review will be spoiler free so read on with no fear.

I went into this book thinking that I wouldn’t get much out of this book mainly because I am more of a fantasy reader than a contemporary reader. But, I ended up really enjoying this book. Lifeline is the story of Eli who is a High School lacrosse team captain. One night at a party Eli ends up overdosing and is then sent to a teen rehab facility. This follows his journey to start his recovery. Continue reading “Review: Lifeline by Abbey Lee Nash”
