Review: Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake

Hello there!

I am finally doing my review of Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake! I finished reading TDC right before BookTube-A-Thon stated so over two weeks ago. So here it finally is, hope you enjoy.

“Three dark queens are born in a glen, sweet little triplets will never be friends. Three dark sisters all fair to be seen, two to devour and one to be Queen.”

Three Dark Crowns is about triplet sisters that all have an equal right to the throne. The only thing is that to find out who will be queen once they turn sixteen they have to fight to the death until only one queen is standing. Also, each triplet has a certain power: Katharine is a poisoner, Arsinoe is a naturalist, and Mirabella is an elemental.

My Thoughts:

I started Three Dark Crowns the end of May right before BookCon. Wow, I just realized that it took me a really long time to finish this book lol. So, overall I did really enjoy this book. Some of the problems that I had with Three Dark Crowns is that there were a lot of characters. It took me a while to figure out who was who and which sister they were associated with. From other reviews other people have felt the same way, it was just a lot of characters to keep track off especially because this is told from multiple perspectives. That said ones I started to get into the story I was able to keep track of all the characters.

Also, from the synopsis, you get the vibe that you are going to see the sisters fighting to IMG_8424the death for the crown and just a lot of action. In reality, it was more world building, meeting characters, and setting up for the rest of the books in this series. You do get some action in this first book but the whole sisters fighting to the death does not happen in this first book.

Those things being said what I did enjoy about Three Dark Crowns is that ones I got all the characters straight I did really like the characters. I really started to get invested in these characters and I couldn’t wait to know what will happen next. The other thing I really loved was the ending. Three Dark Crowns left off in an epic plot twist cliff hanger. The ending was honestly amazing and I can not wait to see what happens in the next book One Dark Throne. There were a lot of things that were left up in the air so I know One Dark Throne is going to be amazing. Now I know why the ARC for One Dark Throne went so fast at BookCon, now I really wish I had gotten one.

I gave Three Dark Crowns three stars out of five. That is it my thoughts on Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake. Please let me know what your thoughts were on TDC if you have read it. Also, let me know which is your favorite sister. Mine is Arsinoe there is just something about her that I really love.

Until next time book nerds,

  1. Kendare Blake is one of my favorite authors!! I love Anna Dressed in Blood, so I was super excited to read this. I gave it five stars right afterward, but the further away I get from it, the less I remember liking it. It was pretty confusing in the beginning, and I didn’t necessarily love any of the characters. I can’t wait for One Dark Throne though… it has so much potential to be amazing!!
