Review: My (not so) Perfect Life by: Sophie Kinsella

Hello there!

Last week on February 7th, 2017 my most anticipated 2017 book was released! Let’s back it up a little to 2015. My favorite author Sophie Kinsella published two books in 2015 so I knew that in 2016 she would not release a new book. That said I have been waiting for this new book for over a year so I was so excited when I finally got my hands on a copy of My Not So Perfect Life. By the way, if you want to see what happened when I went on a book hunt to get this book check out my video Book Hunt Adventure! Now let’s get into this review because I have a lot of feels!

First things first, what is this book about? Katie works as a Junior Researcher at a branding company in London. Working and living in London has been Katie’s dream for as long as she can remember. Katie has always dreamt of living a fabulous life in her dream city and finally get away from her family farm. The reality is that life is not as fabulous as she thought it would be. Her commute to work is horrible, she lives in a small flat with crazy flatmates. Katie believes that for her to make it in life she has to create a perfect life even if its all a lie. Just when things start to look a little better for Katie the unthinkable happens, she gets fired by her boss with the perfect life.

“Whoever started the rumor that life has to be perfect is a very wicked person”

Guys, that is only part of what this book is about! There was so much more to this book and I loved every bit of it. By page 5 of MNSPL, I knew this was going to be an amazing book. The first sense describes Katie’s commute to work on the Tube and since I live in New York City and take the train all the time I was able to relate to Katie. A lot of the things she went through actually happen in real life and it is a pain. The way that Kinsella made a lot of what Katie went through so realistic and relatable is one of the things that I really enjoyed about this book. Also, in true Kinsella fashion, this book is hilarious, I laughed out loud so many times. That is what I love about Kinsella’s writing I always know I will get a good laugh. I also really enjoyed how the romance in this book was not front and center it mainly focused on Katie and her trying to figure out what she wants in life, just trying to make the right choices in her life.

I also enjoyed all of the characters that were in Katie’s life. What I did not expect was the little mystery element to the story. I don’t want to give anything away but I did guess early on in the story the answer to that mystery. I was happy that I guessed right, I mean everyone likes being right. I think that is all I am going to say because I think everyone should read this book. I am going to say one other little thing…Alex, oh Alex. That is all I am going to say on that.fullsizerender-jpg-1-2

I gave My Not So Perfect Life five stars out of five. I am telling you this book was so amazing. I read it in about three days and I was so sad when it was over. Now I have to wait another year to read Sophie Kinsella’s next stand alone novel. I can’t wait for that. Let me know if you have read MNSPL or if you are planning on it?

Until next time book nerds,
