Review: Stealing Snow by: Danielle Paige

Hello there!

This post is my review on Stealing Snow by Danielle Paige. This review will be spoiler free so do not fear and read on.

Stealing Snow is a retelling of The Snow Queen by: Hans Christian Anderson. Snow is a seventeen-year old girl who has been in a psychiatric unit her entire life. Truth is that Snow isn’t crazy and that is only where her troubles begin. When Snow finally gets her first kiss from her best friend Bale he ends up turning violent causing them to be separated from each her. Then Snow meets a new orderly who tells her about her past and the things waiting for her in this mysterious land, she just has to get to the tree, that has been in her dreams. Beyond the tree Snow will learn about life before Whittaker and which way her future can go.

Overall I enjoyed reading Stealing Snow. The overall plot of the story was really intriguing and I enjoyed trying to pick out the similarities between Stealing Snow and The Snow Queen. I enjoyed how Paige took the story of the Snow Queen and made it her own. I was able to see how certain events in Stealing Snow were influenced by The Snow Queen. While reading Stealing Snow I felt that there wasn’t much action happening. It kind of felt like a roller coaster, something exciting would happen then it will calm down for a while. In the img_7330“calm” parts it was mostly Snow learning about Algid, her past and what the people wanted her future to be. This bothered me for a while because I wanted to get to the action and fighting and for Snow to finally come face to face with the Snow King. Once I finished the book I realized that the “calm” parts were the most important. Those parts were building up for that big reveal in the end. The entire time reading Stealing Snow you think that everything is black and white that the things we learn is what is. In reality that is not the truth, there is always more to the story. I am not sure if that was Paige’s intention but that is what I got from the book.

By the end of Stealing Snow, I believe the truth is just beginning to hit the surface. I am really excited to see where this story goes in the next book. I hope that we learn more about Algid as well as get more information about the Prophecy. As well as get to learn more about Snow’s mother, the Duchess, and the Snow King. I feel that this story is just going to get more inserting, I am excited to see what’s next.

My rating, I gave Stealing Snow 3.5 stars out of 5. It was a good story and I loved the premise of the book. There were times where I did feel a bit bored with the story but all in all I think it was a good read. If you love retellings I think you should give it a try, the ending is definitely worth reading it. Let me know in the comments if you have read Stealing Snow and what you thought of it. Or if you are planning on reading it in the future.
