Review- Glass Sword by: Victoria Aveyard

Hello there!

In this post I will be reviewing Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard, the second book in the Red Queen series. I have a non-spoiler review and a review with spoilers  for Red Queen if you want to check those out first.  There will be some Red Queen spoilers here, so if you have not read Red Queen DO NOT read this review. Now let’s get into the review.

I am going to start of by saying that I did not hate or completely love this book. I thought it was a good book but not OMG this is so amazing type of book. I did in the end really enjoy the story and I cannot wait to see what happens next. While reading Glass Sword it took me a while to really get into it. The first part of the book was on the slower side but once you get passed the first half of the book it starts to pick up and gets more interesting.

The main plot of Glass Sword is finding the new bloods before Maven does, and training them to learn to use their powers, so they can take down the newly crowned King Maven. What I really enjoyed about Glass Sword is that it picks up right where Red Queen left off. There is no time jump so the reader just gets back into the story. I also really enjoyed meeting all the new bloods and learning about what abilities they had. To be honest there were a good amount of new bloods introduced so I had a hard time keeping them all straight. While reading there were a few times that I wished I had a cheat sheet on all the new bloods lol. FullSizeRender-1

In the end of Red Queen we find out that Mare’s brother Shade is still alive and that he is a new blood with the ability to teleport aka jump. When I read Red Queen I was sad that we did not get to meet Shade until the end since well we thought he was dead for most of the book. I could tell from the little that we knew about him that he was an awesome character. So I loved getting to see more of him in Glass Sword, and learning more about him. I would have also loved to see more of Maven because the little that we saw of him was very interesting to say the least, and I want to see how evil he truly is. I cannot believe I am going to say this but I wished there was some Evangeline in Glass Sword she was just so good at being bad and I missed her! Rumor has it that we will see more of her in book three! So I am excited to see what is in store with Evangeline.

When it comes to Mare the main thing that bothers me about her is the way she treats Kilorn. I mentioned this in my Red Queen review how Mare treats Kilorn like a child and I find that so irritating. I just kept screaming in my head “OMG Mare he is a grown man he can take care of himself and make his own decisions”. So when she kept doing this in Glass Sword I was just like I do not understand Mare, why? just why? lol. Continuing with Mare I really did enjoy reading about her trying to get over the betrayal in Red Queen. In Glass Sword she does have trouble fully trusting anyone, and she is trying to find a way to learn and trust people again. Which I do not blame her. After reading Red Queen I felt betrayed and it can not be easy to trust people after that, like it is said multiple times in the book “anyone can betray anyone”. FullSizeRender

So what did I rate Glass Sword? I gave it four out of five stars. This is the same rating I gave Red Queen. I did really enjoy Glass Sword but I did not love it enough to give it five stars. I am looking forward to the third book after that ending that I was not expecting. I have so many questions that need answers so I am really excited to see what is to come. Let me know in the comments if you have read Red Queen and Glass Sword and what your thoughts are on them.

Until next time book nerds,
